Using Flower Embellishments in Your Scrap Book

I love when I find beautiful embellishments for scrap booking and none excited me more then the fabric flowers.   When I first saw them they were quite hard to find, so I went online and bought them in several colors, knowing I would find use for them along the way.  Flowers are not the perfect addition for every page.  They are bulky and take up a lot of room on a page and they need to fit with the them, but when you use them right they are a beautiful addition to the page.

One of the first times I used the flowers was for this page for a scrap book I created chronicling the journey of my husband and I. We were friends for a little more then 2 years before we started dating, but rather then scrap book all those events in our lives separately I decided to do a collage page of that time in our relationship.  But how to tie a collage of random photos together?  This was a perfect use for flowers.   Being that I love red, white and polka dots I went with that color scheme.  To compliment the flowers I cut the Friends First letters out of red paper and adding white dots.

The red and white flowers on this page are from my favorite brand,  Flora Doodles by Petaloo.   They come in all different colors and even have beautiful sparkling centers.

A spring formal is another great reason to utilize flowers.  In this case I had a collection of beautiful turquoise and purple flowers with a metallic shine.  Since my dress was a shiny purple I thought this was a great color scheme for this page. Using the flowers as a bottom border was a great way to add to the page without making the page to cluttered.

These small metallic flowers are from Fabric Fancies.

What do I mean by to cluttered?  Here is another spring formal page I used flowers on.  This time because my dress was pink I used a series of pink, purple and turquoise flowers.  Then I cut flowers out of paper to put flat flowers under the fabric ones, giving it a collage look.  But being unsure what to do with the page, I added way to many flowers.   I don't love all the pages I have created over the years.

You can now find flower embellishments at most craft stores. I have seen them at Michaels, AC Moore, and Joannes Fabrics.  Martha Stewart even makes a line of them.  But I still think you find the best selection online.
