Easy To Make Oreo Truffles

Truffles are a great idea for a New Years Eve Party.  I have a ton of great (and complicated) Truffle Recipes, some of which I have already posted.  (See Cocoa Truffles or Ganache Truffles) But if you are looking for something easy or quick to do, how about Oreo Truffles.

I have seen this recipe many times and its always slightly different.  But here is what I do when I make them.

Ingredients:

1 (16 oz) pkg. OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies (you can also use flavored Oreos)
1 (8 oz) pkg. PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
2 tsp vanilla extract or flavored extract if desired
2 (8 oz) pkgs. BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, melted

Directions:
  • Separate several of the cookies.  Take the side with the least cream and put in aside.
  • In a food processor, grind the rest of the cookies to fine crumbs  Place crumbs in a medium bowl.
  • Add cream cheese and mix until well blended.
  • Refrigerate the dough for about an hour.
  • Meanwhile using the food processor grind the separated cookie pieces.
  • Roll cookie mixture into balls, about 1-inch in diameter.
  • Melt chocolate - I prefer to use a double boiler*, but you can also microwave it** or use the bakers Chocolate Microwavable tubs
  • Cover a tray in wax paper.
  • Dip the balls in chocolate and place on the wax covered baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle remaining cookie pieces over the chocolate covered oreo balls for decoration.
  • Let them set in fridge at least 1 hour.
Store leftover truffles covered in the fridge.

*When using a double boiler to melt chocolate, put water in the bottom pot and the chocolate in the top pot.  Heat on low.  Be careful not to let the water touch the upper pot or to let the water boil.  Watch chocolate that it does not become to hot.

** When microwaving chocolate you must microwave it on a medium speed, a little at a time, checking and stirring chocolate frequently
