Guess Who's Turning 90?

How amazing is it to turn 90 years old?   My grandfather is turning 90 this month, on May 21st.    His 80th Birthday party was a fancy affair thrown by my Uncle at his house in Lloyd Harbor.  But it was at this party that our journey to throwing his 90th began, because it was at this party that a bright eyed, enthusiastic college student told her grandfather that she would throw his 90th at her house someday.  Luckily for me, I married a great guy and bought a great house... because here we are, 10 years later and only one week away from his 90th birthday!   Of course, as promised, we are throwing him a birthday party on Memorial Day Weekend!

The invitations have gone out and the responses are coming in.    So the party planning, the decorating and the creating of party favors have already begun.   But not only party planning and decorating, but also the yard work... since we started the planning for this party we have been crazy busy fixing up our yard.  Pictures of that are to come.

So I will start sharing with you all the designs and plans,  starting with the invitations.

I love the invitations, which I created myself!   They were nothing fancy, but I am very proud of the design, which I created using Adobe In Design.  Playing off the Memorial Day Weekend party date, I used red and blue, but I chose to use light blue instead of navy.     I created the 90 first and then played with the arrangement of the numbers to make a design I liked.  Then I added the photo into the 9.   The photo that I used of my grandfather was from my wedding.

The inside of the invitation just gives the party details and has the 90 replicated on the bottom corner, without the photo.

This same 90 will be playing through the theme of the party (the cake, the centerpieces, and if I have time the cookie favors.  I even carried it through in the purchase of these balloons, which I ordered online.   I can't wait for it to all come together into a beautiful party.  I hope my grandfather loves his party and everything we are doing to prepare for it.
